Search “blackjack betting systems” and you will find Martingale, Paroli, 1-3-2-6, and a dozen cousins. They all schedule the next bet from the last result. They do not look at whether tens are still in the shoe. A card count does the opposite: the last win or loss is almost irrelevant; the remaining ranks are the point.

What progressive betting is

Why they do not cancel the house edge
Each blackjack hand still has the same house edge (for your rules and chart) no matter what you bet last time. Doubling after a loss makes the rare long losing streak enormous — table max or a busted stack arrives, and the “sure recovery” never happens. That is variance with a megaphone, not a clever exploit.
What a count is doing instead
Hi-Lo (and KO, Hi-Opt, and the rest) tag ranks as they leave. A high true count means more tens and aces remain, which in models is when a larger bet has a better justification. A negative count is when textbooks say to bet small. The trigger is the shoe, not the last outcome. That is the advantage-play idea as a study topic — still not a promise, still practice-only on this site.
If you mix Martingale with a count, you are usually letting the last loss override the shoe. Drop the progression.

- In the trainer, change the virtual bet with TC, not with “I just lost.”
- Reset chips when the stack becomes the story. The drill is the number, not the recovery.
