Why Google shows both +4 and +8

10 vs A means your hard total is 10 and the dealer’s upcard is an Ace. The index is a true-count threshold. Below it you hit; at or above it you double (when doubling is allowed).

  • +4 — typical on multi-deck shoe charts (S17, DAS-style study sets).
  • +8 — appears on some pitch-game or ace-side-count-adjusted Hi-Opt II lists.

Hi-Opt II tags 10s at −2 and aces at 0 in the main count, so its true-count scale is not the same as Hi-Lo. Copying a Hi-Lo “10 vs A = +4” into Hi-Opt II without checking the chart is a common leak.

Use these as a memorization sheet for the plays counters look up most. Insurance and stiff hands sit next to 10 vs A because they travel together in drills.

Play Index (TC) Action at/above index
Hard 10 vs A +4 Double (else hit). Some charts: +8
Hard 10 vs 10 +4 Double (else hit)
Hard 11 vs A +1 Double (else hit)
Insurance (dealer Ace) +3 to +4 Take insurance
Hard 16 vs 10 0 Stand (else hit)
Hard 16 vs 9 +5 Stand (else hit)
Hard 15 vs 10 +4 Stand (else hit)
Hard 12 vs 3 +2 Stand (else hit)
Hard 12 vs 2 +3 Stand (else hit)
Hard 13 vs 2 −1 Stand (else hit)
Hard 9 vs 7 +4 Double (else hit)
10,10 vs 5 +5 Split (else stand)
10,10 vs 6 +5 Split (else stand)

“Stiff hands” here means hard 12–16 vs a dealer 2–6 or 10. Stand/hit flips with the true count; 16 vs 10 at 0 is the workhorse.
